Queen of Angels Catholic School Holds Guinness World Record

QUEEN OF ANGELS CATHOLIC SCHOOL
STUDENTS BREAK
GUINESS WORLD RECORDS™ for
THE LARGEST GAME OF HIDE & SEEK

Roswell, GA – September 20, 2011: How do you break a World Record? This was the question middle school video journalism students at Queen of Angels Catholic School were asked as part of a group project last year. Instead of just researching how it was done in the past, the students at Queen of Angels Catholic School actually attempted to break a world record. Guinness World Records™ recently announced Queen of Angels Catholic School as the world record holder for the biggest game of Hide and Seek with 245 participants. The students will be honored by the Roswell City Council on Monday, October 24 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The middle school students, with the help of their faculty advisors, researched and submitted a proposal to Guinness World Records TM in March to attempt to break the record held by a group in Shiga, Japan with 188 Hide and Seek participants. The proposal was approved by Guinness World Records ™ on April 18th.

The attempt took place on May 6th on the three acre soccer fields adjacent to the Roswell school. The attempt lasted for over an hour and included Roswell City Council and Rotary Club representatives as witnesses to the event.
“We are so proud of our video journalism students and the initiative they have shown toward this project. They have been hands-on from the very beginning and displayed great organization skills and enthusiasm, “explained Mrs. Erin Molter, Video Journalism teacher.

Queen of Angels Catholic School (www.qaschool.org) is an archdiocesan Kindergarten-8th grade Catholic School located in Roswell, GA. Dr. Kathy Wood is principal of the 504 student school.

Recently, a team from Queen of Angels Catholic School raised money for the CURE Childhood Cancer's Lauren's Run.

It's a cause close to the heart of Annamarie Robb, the school’s Director of Development, who lost her 18-year-old son to cancer a few years ago. But the loss of Robb's son isn't the only cancer faced by a family at the school.
Miller was recently named the first-place winner in the Georgia American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) contest, "What Do Civil Engineers Do?" Following "Money" magazine calling a career in civil engineering the sixth best in the nation, ASCE launched its statewide contest for middle school students throughout the state. Students who participated in the contest were allowed to use a plethora of multi-media platforms in order to answer the question, including essays, videos, artwork, or other media.

The Georgia Bulletin

On Sept. 8, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in honor of Mary’s birthday, students and faculty at Queen of Angels School dedicated their 10th school year to Mary, Queen of Angels, with a Mass, prayer service and blessing.

The Mass, held at neighboring St. Peter Chanel Church, was celebrated by Archbishop-emeritus John F. Donoghue, and concelebrated by pastor Father Frank McNamee, Deacon Ray Egan and Deacon Scott Sparks.

After Mass the school community gathered in front of the recently installed bronze statue of Mary for the blessing. The eighth-grade students processed to the statue, each holding a yellow rose for Mary. Archbishop Donoghue led the students, their parents and faculty in a decade of the rosary and then a litany to Mary. He then blessed the school and parent community.

Read the full article on The Georgia Bulletin website.
